Simran Vadher, Sustainability Analyst
Sustainability Analyst Simran Vadher joins the great textile shift
With fresh perspectives from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the startup scene, joins Sre to develop our Life Cycle Assessment. To mark her transition into the team, we asked her to donate one cherished, yet end-of-life, garment to the textile shift.
What inspired you to join Syre?
“My passion for sustainable fashion started with shopping secondhand, long before Syre. Studying biotechnology and textile innovation deepened my interest for the intersection between sustainability and the textile industry. When Syre launched in March, three months before I was graduating it felt meant to be.”
As a sustainability analyst at a sustainable business, what do you actually do?
“As an impact company, we strive to work proactively with mapping our environmental and social impact, with transparency and traceability always in mind. Life Cycle Assessment is a comprehensive tool that incorporates these aspects for data driven decision making. The shift to a circular, closed-loop system requires us to rethink our LCA approach and how we communicate our innovation to an industry resembling a sleeping giant traditionally characterized by linear processes. We use the LCA results to refine and scale our strategy, keeping us on track to reach our targets whilst minimizing negative impact and staying true to our values”.
Simran's passion for sustainability and textiles started long before Syre, having earned a master's degree in industrial and environmental biotechnology from KTH and studied circular textiles and textile innovation at University of Borås.
How do you envision the future of the textile industry?
“I envision a future where we are more mindful of our consumption, with fast fashion giving way to slower, more sustainable practices and systems in place for true circularity becoming the norm- all achieved without compromising people or the environment.”
What’s the story behind the garment you’ve chosen?
“This vest was a gift from my mom several years ago, but it no longer fits me. She has played a central part in cultivating my love for fashion, teaching me the value of sharing and caring for the clothes we have. I still proudly wear pieces she bought over 20 years ago.”
